Dutch Shoes Trend

Who is wearing Wooden Shoes ?

Everybody over the whole world thinks that all the people in Holland wear wooden shoes.
But that's not right! Only a "few" people in Holland wear wooden shoes, about 5000, maybe more, maybe less, so only a small part of the population. And almost all the people wearing wooden shoes are farmers or people in a nursery. That means that people who need wooden shoes for their jobs, have them as industrial clothing.

Why are they wearing wooden shoes?

Farmers, market-gardeners and so on are most of the time wearing wooden shoes. That is because it's very handy to wear them when you walk on dirty ground. It's also to protect yourself. You can wear boots of rubber, so you won't get dirty feet, socks and trousers (at the underside of course).
But there are some disadvantages when you wear boots instead of wooden shoes!
If you are a gardener you probably won't need wooden shoes, but if you are a farmer and you have some dangerous, sharp objects on your farmyard, and it would be everything except nice to have the weight of a cow on, a nail, a point of a pitchfork or something like that in your feet, therefore you can better wear wooden shoes, because:

They protect you!
You won't feel or you won't even notice when you are standing on the point of a nail, because the nail won't get into your wooden shoes. And if you do the same (standing on a nail) when you are wearing boots of rubber you'll scream and maybe even cry because it hurts terribly to stand on a sharp point.

There are also a lot of people who wear wooden shoes because you can get in and out of them easily without wasting a lot of time.

And mostly you won't sweat in wooden shoes, because fresh air can reach your feet and if you wear boots it's impossible for the fresh air to reach your feet.
How are wooden shoes made?

Wooden shoes are made by hand, or by machines. Making wooden shoes by hand has almost completly disappeared. Only at some places in Holland you can watch people who make wooden shoes just as in the past, like the old artisans.
To make wooden shoes of a piece of wood you need to have professional knowledge. The artisan gets this professional knowledge out of experience, but you have to have some natural ability.
You would know that you need a lot of insight for the making of wooden shoes. The left shoe has to be exactly the same as the right one. Of course, you also need good instruments. The artisan maintains his tools really well, and his knifes and hatchets become even sharper while he is working. All the different tools have a special name (the name is even different from area to area). The tools are standing down here, but the text under it is Dutch, because it wasn't possible to translate it into English.
The making of a wooden shoe

There is a problem, not by the making of a wooden shoe, but by the explanation of the making of a wooden shoe in English.
We got the information on this page out of some books, but the books are written in Dutch, because we live in Holland. And in the chapter of the making of wooden shoes there are used a lot of difficult words to translate, they do not even stand in a dictionary ( because it is written in technical terms). In the Dutch part of this page there is lots of text of how people make wooden shoes, but here there isn't, sorry. So we are not going to write down a lot, but we are going to explain the making of a wooden shoe by scanned pictures and a little explanation under them.
The decoration

The finishing touch of the making of a wooden shoe is, of course, the decoration. Sometimes the decoration is only a painting sometimes also carved work.
As art, the carved work in wooden shoes and to paint on them has not disappeared yet. People who do this kind of work don't do it for a living, but because they like to do it, it's their hobby. The work of the loving amateur leads to an other "hobby", the "klompendanskunst" (a dance on wooden shoes), and to the wearing of costumes. It's true that people in some places in Holland still wear their costume and their belonging to wooden shoes daily is like a natural, spontaneous thing.
But a lot of costumes are already in a museum, no one still wears them. And the wooden shoe with decoration is going to be only in a museum to look at, too. The valuable wooden shoes decoration process is going to belong to a disappearing folklore.

Christian Louboutin Strassed Shoes

I am crazy for shoes and I will never say no to a chance of owning another one. A couple of weeks back I found a Christian Louboutin shoe and I fell in-love with it. Oh yes, I am speaking of the red-sole shoe that's a favorite of Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, Kim Kardashian to name a few.

Shoe so sexy!!!

Christian Louboutin's trademark glossy red soles are an undisputed stamp of fashion excellence. Since the launch of his exquisite eponymous label in 1991, the French designer has stayed true to his goal - to 'make shoes that are like jewels'. From razor-sharp stilettos to lace-up boots and studded sneakers, Christian Louboutin is every woman's go-to for heavenly heels and covetable accessories.

While salivating on the throngs of these red soles shoes (the trademark was registered on January 1, 2008, almost six months after the action was initiated), I happen to read about the talented Joseph LiMandri who can be commissioned to strass(crystallize) your favorite pair of high-end pumps, flats, sandals, or even boots. He has a blog and an Etsy store in case you would be interested to look at his creations too.

I think I want a strassed shoe for my wedding... :-) Maybe something that looks like this:

Christian Louboutin N°Prive Riche 120

Shoe Designer Feature: Christian Louboutin

Louboutin wants his shoes to be worn by customers who eat real food.

With several swoops of his pen, he had managed to make Blahnik’s princessy slingbacks look as if they were meant for ladies who spend their days eating charity lunches of chicken salad and melon balls. The Louboutin woman might order a rare hamburger. “I’ll do shoes for the lady who lunches, but it would be, like, a really nasty lunch, talking about men,” Louboutin said. “But where I draw the line, what I absolutely won’t do, is the lady who plays bridge in the afternoon!”

“One thing I detest, I have to say, is when a shoe is too soft, and it’s molding to the foot,” Louboutin said. “This is quite disgusting. And I really, really hate incredibly long shoes, where the last is very pointy, almost like Aladdin.”

What's your favorite Louboutin shoe design?

I Am In-Lust!

Seriously!!! I just died and still lusting over it after I got resurrected.

I am lusting over this pair of Janylin Leopard-print booties...

Can someone get me this? Late Christmas present? Advance birthday present? I am a size 60-65. This won't break your bank I promise. :-)

Shoelove at First Sight

I've seen flyers and catalogues of the latest designs of SM Parisian shoes since the fashion week last October and I never really did pay much attention to the designs because I just got fixated with Janylin and CMG among others. A couple of weeks ago, I was browsing the StyleBible website and saw this interesting lace-up booties with zipper:

I knew right there and then that I have to own a pair of those shoes. I am never adventurous when it comes to shoes and this will be the first time I would try some chunky heels. I heard they are comfortable too (more comfortable than stilettos for sure). I have yet to try...

I went to SM Makati today and I tried on a pair of red satin Mary Jane stilettos from Janylin (size 65) and I was poised to buy it already. I was ready to hit the cashier but changed my mind because it fit a little funny. The straps are the ones keeping them on my feet. I think they were about half a quarter of an inch larger and the smaller size (size 60) is no longer in stock. I decided not to buy it and continue looking for other designs. When I moved to the Parisian shoes where the booties, wedges and clogs were displayed, I saw the shoes I was crushing on. I tried a pair and it fit me like a glove (size 60). I was ecstatic. I will buy one of the peep-toe clogs if the booties would be comfortable enough for me.

While I had the shoes on, images of what I will be wearing with the shoes flashed in my head. I like how solid the heel looks. It is a 4.5-inch stunner at a very, yes very affordable price - only Php1299.75 (about USD 29.75). Oh by the way, this design comes in tan too.

Now, the test is yet to begin - how many hours can I stand and walk with the shoes on? I wonder if I can survive a day at work without ever complaining. Ha! Iris already told me she has the same pair and it's only comfy for the first 10 minutes. I'll let you all know.

Spring/Summer 2011 Platform Sandals Trends

The warmer season brings with it a wide range of sandals. Among all the different styles and shapes, platforms seem to always come back reinventing themselves season after season. Whether they are high-heeled or not, platform sandals have long proved their versatility and practicality, being both comfortable, despite their amazing height, and elegant. Therefore, you don't have to make a compromise. Take a look to some of the spring/summer 2011 platform sandals trends.

Charles Anastase

Lately, platform sandals became an essential item for hot summer days. Whether we are talking about fringes, flowers, lace, or different embellishments, next season we gain height and choose one pair of platform sandals designers had prepared for us for spring/summer 2011. Extremely tall, in a wide range of colors, from the classic ones to various prints and shades, invest in one trendy pair and you just have to wait for the sun and summer holiday spent at the seaside.

Versus

Besides their practical and versatile side, platform sandals play an extremely important aesthetic part being more than flattering for those of you who want to look taller and slimmer. Moreover, they represent the chic choice for an elegant summer outfit, especially if you choose a pair with high-heels. You can match them with different items from skirts and liberty printed dresses or jumpsuits to denim shirts and sophisticated pencil skirts and shirts. The only thing you should do is to find the perfect pair that flatters your silhouette and matches your personal style. Be careful as next season's platforms have a dizzy height (Charles Anastase, Barbara Bui)!

Sonia Rykiel

Floral prints, fringes and other flirty embellishments were used by fashion designers in order to accessorize not only clothes, but platform sandals too. We have seen fun, playful platforms at D&G, Wunderkind, Christian Dior, and Blugirl. They come in so many beautiful colors with mesmerizing applications, such as romantic bows and sweet flowers. Wear them with a colored dress, but avoid a printed one and go for plain. If the platforms are very colorful, pick more soft, warm colors for your accessories in order to balance the overall look.

D & G

During the summer season what better way to boost your wardrobe than by choosing a footwear in a tasty, fruity colors. Therefore, daily heat and the mildness of summer nights allows you to stay comfortable in a pair of colorful platforms that you can wear with denim shorts or a breezy, flowy dress. Pay attention to the height and choose a pair that allows you to move freely and naturally, otherwise your posture will look rather weird. You have so many collections where to draw your inspiration from, such as Custo Barcelona, Betsey Johnson, Costume National, Blugirl, D&G, or Sonia Rykiel, among others.

Wunderkind

Platform sandals are not only for a daytime, casual look, but they can also be worn to something more elegant. Whether it is made from satin or lace with feminine bows, or with a wooden sole, a pair of platform sandals elongates your legs, adding femininity and style to your appearance. Therefore, they are a smart investment for the warmer season. If you choose to match golden and nude you will certainly obtain a glamorous effect. For a night out with your friends, team your platforms with jeans and a sweet top. For different ideas take a look to collections such as Christian Dior, Donna Karan, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Ports 1961, or Stella McCartney.

Betsey Johnson

Marc by Marc Jacobs

If you are looking for something more refined, nude and powdered pink platform sandals are the perfect choice for a sophisticated look that instantaneously add style and elongate your silhouette, not only due to the height of the sandals, but also to their color. Flattering for the skin, wear them with soft, breezy fabrics for a stylish summer outfit. If you don't have them already, add a pair to your spring/summer 2011 wardrobe and use your creativity to make feminine outfits. White, brown or black are also a great idea to take into consideration as they can be matched to everything and anything.
